Aidan's first haircut

Jack was the first to point out that Aidan's hair was getting a bit longish.  Being the mom, I protested at first.  Then, things were relatively quiet one evening, so I decided Jack was right and I was going to cut Aidan's hair.  Like they were for our other kids, snacks proved to be an effective distracting tactic.  Ultimately, I think I did a good job.  So good, in fact, that I set everything up on the porch a few nights later to cut Annie's hair.  And I think I did a good job with her hair, too.  It's kind of fun, cutting hair.  No pictures of Annie's hair - you just don't usually break out the camera for haircuts of 6-year olds - but here are some for Aidan's debut.

Happy 4th!

Our family had a great day yesterday.  The fun - at least for Jack and I - started Tuesday evening with an adult-only (for our group) James Taylor concert.  Sitting outside once a year with my husband and other friends and eating swanky food on a beautiful night while "James Taylor sings to us" (which sounds much swankier than "listening to James Taylor") is good for the soul and we enjoyed it very much.

On Wednesday morning, we all headed out to the parade in town.

My Annie girl likes to dress for the occasion.  And she likes to dress any of her other siblings who will let her dress them - that's usually only Lauren.  I have resisted the urge every year to buy a red, white, and blue sundress for the girls for the parade.  The girls have plenty of clothes, they don't need another sundress, right?  Always resourceful, Annie just rummaged around in the girls' dresser and dressed both herself and her sister in perfectly appropriate July 4th attire.  Yay Annie!

 Waiting to dash for candy

Aidan was very interested in all there was to see.

One of Jakin's favorite parts of being in the school band is that he can march in the parades!

Aidan somehow ended up with a lollipop.

He can even walk with the lollipop!

This fruit tart was our dessert after dinner.  Then, we went to see some fireworks on the evening of the 4th but those pictures are on Jack's phone, so they will have to be the subject of another post.

And this is just a sweet picture from today.  Aidan is such a smiley happy boy!

Girls in a sundress

 Summer 2012

Summer 2010         This is one of my all-time favorite pictures of Annie...

June

I know I've already done a few posts for June.  Rather than break up the rest of the pictures, I'm just including all of them in one post.  Enjoy!

Jakin NEVER naps, but on this day he did.  At least I think he did.  I sort of suspected he was just pretending to nap to get out of doing chores.

While on our marathon Ohio trip, we spent some days at my in-laws.  Sweet baby Ewan, who we met when he was just two days old in April, was about 8 weeks old when we saw him in June.

The three-year old girls love babies!

We celebrated some boy birthdays.  These are gifts from Aunt Becky and Uncle Rick to Aidan.  He crawled around carrying that shovel for a long time.  We look forward to using the shovel at the beach later this month.

The boys were super excited to get goalie gloves from Aunt Becky and Uncle Rick.  They wore them even when they weren't playing soccer.  I had suggested to Becky that she only needed to get one pair of gloves for the boys to share.  I'm glad she didn't listen to me ....

Grammy made an incredible strawberry pie for Corban's birthday and Father's Day.  We've had lots of wonderful meals in this kitchen!

Sometimes it's hard to get a smile out of Corban, even when he's opening birthday presents!  But, he was happy to get these Legos.

Ewan wearing Aidan's old clothes!  I love to see my nephews in my boys' clothes!

Aidan trying corn on the cob for the first time.  I kept trying to get him to turn the cob sideways, but he kept wanting to eat corn from the end.  Oh well.

Aidan's birthday present from Jack and me was this pool.  We had a streak of chilly weather right after his birthday, so we had to wait a while to actually use the pool outside with water.  I think he likes it.  He also got to wear his new swim shirt from Grandma and Grandpa.

The big kids like the pool, too.

Aidan started standing independently at about 11 1/2 months.  He didn't start walking until recently, at about 13 months.

This is Jack's Father's Day present.  We all really like it, but he gets first dibs.  It's really nice to sit in this chair out on the screened-in porch.

Another strawberry pie for Corban's actual birthday at home.  I'm glad the boy who was born right in the middle of strawberry season like strawberries!

Hugs from his sisters

One day Aidan was so tired at lunch that he fell asleep in his chair.

A sleepover party for the boys, and another chance to use the screened-in porch

Aidan thinks he pretty fancy.  You know what else is fancy?  Those drawer fronts my husband built for me!  We're not staying with the two-toned paint, by the way.  We were just trying to pick the right color.  We've gotten a surprising number of compliments on the two-tone though....

Aidan was exhausted after Mass yesterday.  He fell asleep on the way home and Jack plopped him on the bean bag while we started making brunch.
And now it's July!
